Job Title:  Civil Engineer/Construction Manager

Location: Lorain, Ohio

We are looking for a talented and motivated civil engineer/construction manager experienced in site civil design and construction management who can help us deliver high-quality results to our clients. The selected applicant will be expected to lead the construction management of a large innovative dredged material dewatering and reuse project, understand the facility operations for start-up and future operations management. This innovative project will require full-time construction oversight for the next 1.5 years, after which the position will become dredge facility operations management as well as design and construction management opportunities on new projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as owner’s agent for the construction of public works facilities
  • Manage the project schedule and budget, tracking and approving contractor payment applications
  • Interface with the construction contractor to ensure the proper implementation of the design plans and specifications
  • Document the project progress and technical specification implementation
  • Perform on-site inspections during construction and operation
  • Observe and document the performance of environmental sample collection, geotechnical sample collection, field surveys, investigations, and construction management
  • Perform coordination between several third-party Contractors to ensure site health and safety, process operation, and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Be proficient at managing project tasks independently, performing safe work practices, and developing written reports for final internal reviews
  • Ability to travel to supplier, client, or construction site locations
  • Efficient use of technology to support remote work
  • Willingness to act sustainably, self-engage, continually learn, and teach

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. or Associates degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or other related Construction or Engineering field
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
  • Previous engineering or construction oversight experience
  • Knowledge of SharePoint and Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Self-motivated, organized and able to work independently
  • Ability work outside for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ohio PE license preferred but not required
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred but not required
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with annual refreshers
  • 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety training
  • Contracting and contract management experience

Pay: Commensurate with experience

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

  • Lorain, OH 44052: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work

The position will require fieldwork during all seasons. Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of general administrative duties to include filing, scanning, copying, creating and updating various documents, data entry as needed.
  • Manage and maintain files in the Galena office.
  • Maintain company Certificate of Insurance database and renewals for Coldwater and sub-consultants.
  • Complete data entry for mileage logs and enter receipts into QuickBooks.
  • Set up jobs in time tracking software and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Submit bi-weekly payroll.
  • Perform additional bookkeeping duties depending on experience.
  • Assist with proposal preparation including drafting resumes and project summaries and creating general graphics, using Word, Publisher, and/or Photoshop.
  • Manage the maintenance of the Galena office and property, including oversight of, and as needed assistance with, cleaning, landscaping, and general repairs as necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate level of supplies for all Coldwater offices.
  • Handle general errands including bank deposits and supply pickup.
  • Track staff training and assist with course registration.
  • Assist with conference registrations and arrange travel and accommodations as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a two-year college degree in accounting or business, or bookkeeping certificate, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience.
  • Experience using QuickBooks.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications, particularly Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to do occasional travel.
  • Experience with small business certifications, grant applications, and/or proposal development will be a plus.

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday
  • Hours/days are flexible but will total 20-24 hours per week during normal business hours

The position will require occasional travel within Ohio.  A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and a clean driving record is required.  Mileage is reimbursed at the current IRS rate. This is a part-time position after a 90-day probationary period, with potential future progression to a full-time position.  A background check will be required.  Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
